A new lawn that starts with the ground underneath
A lawn only looks as good as the ground it sits on. Old grass, weeds, stones and uneven soil all show through new turf within a season. Youngs Landscaping clears and prepares the area first, then lays the turf tight and level so it knits together and stays flat. Because landscaping is the core of what we do, we can also sort the edges, borders, paths and fence lines at the same time, so the new lawn fits the rest of the garden.

Built around your garden
A lawn that fits the rest of the garden
We look at drainage, shade, slopes and how the lawn will be used before we start, so the finished lawn suits the garden and the people using it. Turf is best laid soon after it is delivered, so we plan the preparation to be finished before the rolls arrive. We work from near Ashford across Folkestone, Hythe, Canterbury, Dover, Maidstone, Sittingbourne, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and the Sussex border.

Turfing questions
When is the best time to lay turf?
Spring and autumn are ideal, because the ground is warm and wet enough for roots to take quickly. We lay through summer as long as the lawn is watered every day, and we avoid frozen or waterlogged ground in winter.
How soon can I walk on a new lawn?
Keep off it for two to three weeks while it roots. Mow for the first time once the turf has knitted and the grass is about five centimetres tall, with the blades set high.
Do you prepare the ground or just lay the turf?
Always prepare. Old grass and weeds come off, the ground is dug or rotavated, levelled, firmed and raked, with topsoil added where it is needed. Turf laid on unprepared ground is the main reason new lawns fail.
