Artificial grass services

A low-maintenance lawn on a base that drains

Artificial grass suits spots where real grass will not grow well, such as shaded corners, heavy use by children or dogs, or gardens where nobody has time to mow. It only stays flat and drains well if the base is right. Youngs Landscaping digs out the old lawn, lays and compacts a free-draining aggregate base, adds a sand blinding and a weed membrane, then lays and fixes the grass. Because landscaping is the core of what we do, the edges, borders and paths are finished properly too.

What we can help with

Groundwork, laying and finishing

Everything needed for an artificial lawn that sits flat and drains after rain.

01

Removing the old lawn

Stripping existing grass and roots and digging out the ground, with all waste taken away.

02

Free-draining base

An aggregate base laid and compacted so rainwater drains through rather than sitting on top.

03

Sand blinding and membrane

A sand blinding to give a smooth finish, with a weed membrane to stop growth coming through.

04

Laying and joining

Grass rolled out, cut neatly to shape and joined so the seams are hard to see.

05

Edging

Secure edging around the lawn to hold the grass in place and give a clean line to borders and paths.

06

Play areas and shaded lawns

Artificial grass for play spaces, dog runs and shady areas where real turf struggles.

Built around your garden

An artificial lawn that fits the rest of the garden

We look at drainage, levels, shade and how the space will be used before we start, so the new lawn suits the garden and lasts. We also think about where the joins fall and how the edges meet paths, borders and fences, so the finish looks neat. We work from near Ashford across Folkestone, Hythe, Canterbury, Dover, Maidstone, Sittingbourne, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and the Sussex border.

Artificial grass questions

Does artificial grass need a base?

Yes. We dig out, lay a compacted sub-base with a sand blinding layer and a weed membrane, so the grass stays flat and drains. Grass laid straight onto soil or an old lawn sinks and puddles within a year.

Is artificial grass all right for dogs?

Yes. It drains freely, can be hosed down and does not turn to mud. We use a pet-friendly grass and can add a deodorising infill if you want it.

How long does artificial grass last?

A good quality grass on a proper base lasts 10 to 15 years. An occasional brush keeps the pile standing and stops leaves building up.
