Decking services
Decking that stays level and solid underfoot
A deck is a good way to make a seating area on a sloping or uneven garden, or to step straight out from the house. It only works if the frame underneath is right. Youngs Landscaping sets out the frame on proper footings, keeps the timber clear of the ground and puts down a weed membrane before the boards go on. Because landscaping is the core of what we do, the deck is planned with the lawn, patio and planting around it, not as a box dropped into the garden.

Built around your garden
A deck that fits the rest of the garden
We look at levels, sun, the view from the house and how the deck joins the lawn or patio before we build, so it sits naturally in the garden. We also think about which way the boards run, where the steps land and how rain will run off the deck. We work from near Ashford across Folkestone, Hythe, Canterbury, Dover, Maidstone, Sittingbourne, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and the Sussex border.
- Honest advice on whether a deck or a patio suits the spot better
- Old decking or paving taken up and removed
- Turfing, planting and fencing can be done in the same job

Decking questions
Timber or composite decking?
Timber costs less and looks natural, but needs oiling every year or two. Composite costs more, does not rot or need treating, and keeps its colour. We quote both so you can compare.
Do I need planning permission for decking?
Usually not. Permission is needed if the deck is more than 30 centimetres above the ground, or if together with other extensions it would cover more than half the garden. We check this at the quote visit.
How long does decking last?
A well-built softwood deck on proper footings lasts 10 to 15 years with maintenance. Composite boards usually carry a guarantee of 20 years or more. The frame underneath matters most, so we build it to outlast the boards.
